Zennor Box

Zennor Box"Zennor Box's paintings are intriguing images. These finely painted narrative landscapes with highly imaginative characters capture stories in mid flow, and the more you look into them the more one’s own imagination and memories flood to the fore.”

Zennor Box paints in a style that’s instantly engaging and recognisable, it’s important for the paintings to be easy to look at and undemanding, but once it’s got your attention and you feel safe looking at it, she likes give you something extra, something you weren’t expecting, this can be humorous, or odd, but she feels like the painting has really worked when it’s both. The struggle to get the balance right between odd and amusing is a constant task for her, too odd and it’s uneasy and overwhelming, not odd enough and it lacks substance.

The atmosphere in these paintings is created by a wonderful use of light. Zennor clearly revels in the ability to use light to create any time of day, from the magic of the morning dawn, to the midday sun coming through the leaves in a forest, she can also create the feeling that the day has past and the night is about to take over.

Zennor’s inspiration comes from many sources, from a multitude of diverse experiences and conversations, from walks to films to list just a few.
